What's this all about?

“Now, we’ll go around the room and I want everyone to stand up and tell us your name and a little bit about yourself”. Do you remember having to do that? Oh my gosh I can’t stand it, just give me an awkward adhesive name tag and let’s call it a day, right?

I guess I can’t escape this time, so let’s get acquainted.

My real name is Nicholas. A few years ago some friends in South Africa gifted me with the nickname, Nick International and it stuck, for reasons that will become obvious. I’m a lawyer with my own practice, and I live in The Bahamas but travel as often as I can, to wherever I can really – nowhere is off limits. I guess you can say I am an attorney by profession, traveler by passion. I’ve landed in 96 cities between 47 countries across 5 continents, and have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I’m a Taurus, incredibly sarcastic and this is my first time taking a stab at writing a travel blog.

I’ve skipped all of the IG go-to destinations for the most part in my travels, or the ones I’ve been to I am proud to say I got there before the world thought it was cool. If you’re looking for more photos of excessive flower petal baths in Bali then you’re in the wrong place. If you want a multi-cultural view of South Africa, then stick with me.

I’ve been traveling for as long as I can remember, first with my parents and then taking my first real unaccompanied trip at 15 to Spain for 3 months. My mother in particular always made sure that I had the opportunity to see a few new countries every year and I owe her everything for the gift of exposure she knew she was giving me.

That’s what travel means to me, exposure. If you visit a new destination and the only thing you acquire is tangible then you’ve done yourself a disservice. Traveling shapes your mind, fuels your imagination and broadens your consciousness of the world around you. I hope you’ll become a regular reader. Organically, I am going to share my travel experiences and insights. Hopefully you’ll find your thoughts provoked, your imagination tickled, your sense of fear subdued and most importantly that you will in turn share your experiences with me.

Here ends the introduction!
